Speedway In Lights up and running at BMS

Yep, we certainly love it when we’re racing here at BMS.  But… without a doubt, one of our favorite times of the year is when we light up the grounds of Bristol Motor Speedway and Dragway for Speedway In Lights Powered by TVA.

This annual event is our chief fundraiser for the Bristol Chapter of Speedway Children’s Charities.  We break out the holiday lights and begin putting them in place right after the August race.  More than two million lights and hundreds of displays line the route.

A highlight of Speedway In Lights includes visitors actually getting to drive on the track at Bristol Motor Speedway.  Granted, it’s not at the qualifying pace of Ryan Newman, but nonetheless, it’s your car on Bristol Motor Speedway — something that just doesn’t happen that often.

We also open up Christmas Village in the infield.  In Christmast Village, children can visit Santa, sip on hot chocolate, have fun on carnival rides and roast marshmallows.

All work and no fun…

Fortunately, here at BMS we manage to mix a little fun in with our work. Truth is, we mix a lot of fun in with our work.  Yesterday (Halloween) marked our annual costume day and Trunk or Treat for employee children – and of course, many of us who work here became children as well.

Our marketing department (pictured) dressed up as characters for Saturday Night Live, and naturally ended up playing the respective roles for most of the day.  Good times.

Today it’s back to prepping for Speedway In Lights, our annual holiday light show which generates proceeds for Speedway Children’s Charities.
