For me, one of the highlights of prepping for each NASCAR event here at Bristol Motor Speedway is working closely with our advertising agency, The Tombras Group, in developing our ad campaign to promote the weekend’s races.
Over the course of the last couple of days, we took a big step toward the completion of our TV spot to promote the Sharpie MINI 300 NASCAR Nationwide Series race slated for Saturday, March 15.
We visited NASCAR Media Group (a.k.a. NASCAR Images) in Charlotte… and for this ol’ die-hard, what a visit it was! Our Sharpie MINI 300 TV spot features a “Bristol-through-the-ages” theme, meaning we had to weed through a generous helping of vintage Bristol racing footage.
All I can say is, “Wow!” First of all, the library of footage housed at NASCAR Media Group is nothing less than incredible. And secondly, their in-house technology is equally as impressive.
Back to the footage… From the very first Bristol race in 1961, to present day — I can’t even begin to relay the wide variety of memories watching that “good-old” stuff brought my way.
Earnhardt’s first career Cup win… Cale leading all 500 laps… Glotzbach running a caution-free race in ‘71… DW and the Dew Crew dominating the high banks… Davey Allison and Mark Martin in a photo finish… Rusty’s 50th… Gordon’s two bump-and-runs on Wallace… Earnhardt and Labonte in ‘95 and ‘99. This list goes on and on.
Ya know… a bunch of stuff has happened here at Bristol. Needless to say, I was like a kid in a candy store. And even more than the racing… just seeing the evolution of Bristol Motor Speedway on video speaks volumes.
Stay tuned, we’ll be posting the TV spot here soon.
