Some darn good memories from my good ol’ days come courtesy of the race track, and I ain’t talkin’ about Bristol. During the late 70s through the mid-90s, we’d often cross the Kentucky-Virginia state line to visit Lonesome Pine Raceway in Coeburn. Sometimes it was with family, sometimes it was with friends, most of the time it was with both.
Anyway, you could always count on seeing a great show on the track. Many times you didn’t know what the show would consist of, but it was always entertaining. Could be Late Model racing or a demolition derby, didn’t matter… You could bank on having fun.
This summer, Bristol Motor Speedway is serving up a bit of that classic short track fun with the four-event “Saturday Spectacular.”
The first one is this Saturday (April 5). The card features the Frank Kimmel Street Stock 150, a good ol’ knock ‘em out of the way trailer race and a school bus crush by Bristol’s very own monster truck, War Wizard.
The Frank Kimmel Street Stock 150 is open to 99 entries. Can you imagine starting 99 cars at Bristol? And the trailer race? Yep, the ol’ Saturday short track fan in me is lickin’ my chops for that one… Nuthin’ like the chaos of racin’ stock cars towing trailers around a high-banked oval. And who in their right mind doesn’t like a good Monster Truck metal-crunching every now and then?
Tickets are only 15 bucks and kids 12-and-under get in free. You can read the official press release here.
