It seems just like yesterday we were watching the final laps of the Sharpie 500, and now we find ourselves entering our second full week of our annual holiday drive-through light show, AutoTrader.com Speedway In Lights Powered By TVA. Trust me when I say the holiday spirit has us fully in its grasp here at Bristol Motor Speedway.
The four-mile drive along Speedway and Dragway property features millions of lights and hundreds of displays. This marks our 12th season of the lights, which clearly has become a holiday tradition for thousands. The attraction serves as our chief fundraiser for the Bristol Chapter of Speedway Children’s Charities.
One of the questions we get asked most often is, “When is the best time to come and see the lights?” I’m sure everyone has their preferences. However for me, the lights have the most impact when it’s raining. The glow and reflections off the ground really add a “wow factor”.
I’m sure my wife and three-year-old will say their favorite time is when it’s clear so they can fully enjoy the rides, roasting marshmallows and visiting Santa in Subway Christmas Village.
