Bristol Trip To-Do Lists

Ah the racin’ rituals have begun. The message boards are hummin’, the Twitter universe is aflutter and Facebook friends far and near are gettin’ Bristol race ready.

Yep, hard to believe it, but it’s almost Bristol time. It’s a lot of fun keeping up with all that race fans are doing to get ready for their respective trek to the home of “The World’s Fastest Half-Mile.”

Just in the last couple of days I’ve read posts about fans “airing out” their campers, shopping for new scanners, updating their race wear so they’re in tune with their driver’s new sponsor colors and even entering the directions to Bristol in their GPS in search of that ultimate route to the hills of east Tennessee.

Which brings me to the point of this post… What does your Bristol prep involve? Seems for a lot of fans it’s a multi-day, or even multi-week process.

No doubt there’s a lot to check off your list before you head our way. Let us know what you do, before you’re Bristol bound.

I buy extra batteries at the store for the scanners! And I start looking at the long range forecast to debate on which jacket to bring!

Gallons of apple pie to make and enough jello for all of the “jello flags” at the short track. Oh yeah – need to de-winterize the camper and restock the consumables. Make the menu, grocery store, liquor store. “Let’s go racin!”

just 3 weeks from this coming Sunday and I will be taking the camper to Bristol. So much to do but the weather just won’t cooperate. I sure am hoping for a break in the weather before race week.

Coming from Kansas City, MO, we stay in a minivan in the blue ox campground, so weeks before you have to start cleaning all your blankets and sleeping bags. Then the lists start:
–Use Google Maps to plan your trips and stops including gas stops, White Castle in Clarksville, Sushi in Mt Juliet, etc.
–Food from Food City and Walmart-figuring out how many meals and what to buy, knowing full well you will buy more than you need.
–Getting things together like handwarmers, portable heaters, scanner, grill and propane, and detailed clothes options in case it snows again.
–Driver Appearances…figuring out who will be where and what you want to bring to get autographed

And then you get all set up at the campground, and realize you forgot something, so you take the Food City bus back to Food City/Dollar Store and get some more.

Then you just hang out and have a great time!

Have to hope the damn snow melts so I can get to the camper. De-winterize it, check the tire pressures. Then install the 5th wheel hitch and wind deflector. Put the fresh water tank in the back of the truck along with the carpets, flag poles and gas tanks for the generator. Check with the Talegater gang on who’s bringing what food, check the stock of Mararita mix and Tequila, make sure the frozen concoction maker is ready for the 1st batch of Margarita’s. Then it’s grab a good breakfast at the local truckstop Wed morning and head down to Bristol from north central Ohio, set up and wait for the rest of the gang to start rolling in.
